Does anyone have any memories or information about Tommy Manes and his amazing bicycle? Apparently he didn’t live in Southrepps but cycled round all the vilages sharpening knives. Can you help date this photograph?

What was the name and breed of his cute wee dog?

    Hello Margaret,
I can remember Tommy Manes visiting Southrepps quite regularly in the 1950’s. He would park his bicycle in the street and the residents would bring out to him their knives, shears etc for him to sharpen on the spot. He always had his necktie tucked into his top pocket to keep it clear of the grinding wheels. As children we gathered round his bicycle to watch him at work and he would entertain us with card tricks. He lived in Northfield Road Mundesley and visited all the surrounding villages and was much in demand. I think he died in the 1970’s.
