Moths

Author: Duncan Westlake

There are of course hundreds of moth species in Britain, and over 300 have been recorded here in a number of moth trapping surveys. This is a list of 247 species with common names: fuller details, including their scientific names, (as well as those lacking common names) are in the downloadable PDF documents. There is also a smaller list of micro moths discovered in a survey conducted in October 2018.

The dates of surveys listed here are the latest ones to have found a species: they may well have also been recorded earlier.

Unless otherwise stated, the location for each observation was Southrepps Common. All the photographs have been taken in Southrepps: as can be seen, we our short of moth photos taken here, so any contributions would be gratefully received! They can be uploaded from our form on the main nature sightings page.

PDF documents sorted by common and scientific names (including micro moths), showing fuller details, can be downloaded at the bottom of the page.
