We have added a new button to our home page Nature Sightings. Some of the flora on Southrepps Commons has been recorded as far back as 1886. Many surveys have been completed and there are there are over 500 plant species on the five Commons. Since 1990 records have also been kept of the fauna on the Commons. Several villagers have kept their own records of birds they have seen across Southrepps. So we thought we would make these records available and with your help add to them.
The sub headings we have are

Amphibians/mammals/reptiles
Butterflies
Moths
Other invertebrates
We want to make this a village wide project not just the Commons. It is thanks to ordinary people that we have such a wide ranging knowledge of our environment in Victorian times it was often the rural Vicar who would be found recording the flora and fauna of his Parish.
We have a sightings form and we would like you to send us a record of what you have seen, when and where, if you have a photograph that would be fantastic. We aim to update the lists at least once a year so please don’t worry if your sightings doesn’t appear it will have been recorded on our master-sheets.
The sighting doesn’t have to be unusual. If that was all that was recorded 200 years ago then we would think there were no buttercups or rats!
