Woodhaven

Woodhaven 2024 (Claire Claxton)

Woodhaven was built by Andrew Newstead a plumber and glazier in 1930, on land purchased from the Land Estate. Before Woodhaven was built there was a previous wooden house. Andrew ran his business from the outbuildings on the land as well as a small holding of chickens, geese, goats and pigs. His daughter Jen remembers the local Bobby P.C. Moore coming round to inspect the Pig Book which recorded all animal movements. Andrew also served in the Home Guard in WWII. The two bedroom house was extended and then in 1963 it was clad in brick. The plot is now about 1 and 1/2 acres . His grand-daughter Claire bought the house on the death of her grandmother Ethel nee Risebrow in 1992.
