SO…

Author Margaret Dowland

SO… is a dementia charity set up in 2021 by Dirck Geary, Southrepps last village sub postmaster and his wife Lorraine after his diagnosis of early onset Alzheimers at the age of 60. At the time of his diagnosis he struggled to find support for people like him with his early onset, So… he set about creating that support. The group meets on a Tuesday morning at Southrepps Village Hall from 10.30 to 12.30.

Their aim is;

To assist people by holding Informal Coffee Mornings, to provide help and support to younger people with dementia and their carer partners.

Sharing experiences and ideas that help people to live life as near as normal .

Give advice and information on dementia support.

Help to provide and develop assistive technology and other stratagems for a nearer normal life.

They invite along professionals from outside organisations, such as The Alzheimer’s Society, Nurses from The NHS And people who provide memory related sessions or work shops.

 Everyone is welcome to join them, either at meetings or directly through email or a phone call.

They also work with The Alzheimer’s Society, to provide help and assistance away from the group, as well as financial and health care advice and information.

They have started working with Norfolk & Norwich University Hospital. Helping and and giving advice for their Dementia Team on Nurses training and Hospital dementia strategies. They also hold fund raising events such as this Christmas fair in the village hall in 2024.

Members of the village volunteer (Betty and Carol), helping with organising activities and making the teas and coffees.
