There are 16 listed structures in Southrepps, 14 in Upper Street and two in Lower Street (three if you include Antingham and Southrepps School, which is just over the parish boundary in Antingham).

One is grade one listed, St James, two are grade 2*, Southrepps Hall and Beechlands farmhouse.

Upper Street

St James

St James 2025 (Dowland)

St James is grade one and was first listed in 1960.

The citation reads:

Medieval. Flint with stone dressings. Graded slate roof. West tower, nave, chancel, south porch. Embattled tower of 4 stages with setback buttresses (its ’emendation’ mentioned in wills from 1431-1467) Flushwork to buttresses with embattled tracery. Flushwork basecourse with wavy frieze above with shells and blank shields. West doorway with paired shafts having polygonal abaci and bases with a continuous inner order and continuous order between the shafts; arch with rolls with hollows between; encircled cusped quatrefoils with shields in the spandrels. Doorway flanked by niches with shafts supporting a rib-vaulted canopy; wavy frieze over with shells and shields. Tall 6-light west window with panel tracery; alternate stone and flint voussoirs; hood mould continuing to form string course. Stair turret to north-west corner with cross and slit lights. Square ringing chamber openings with rows of panel tracery forming a reticulated grid. 3-light transomed bell-openings with panel tracery. Buttressed nave of 4 bays was previously aisled (aisles demolished 1791); line of aisle roofs visible on east face of tower. Walls now C19 with 3 C19 Decorated 3-light windows to south. To the north central C19 chimney, Y-tracery window; some C19 brick to buttresses. Rood stair at angle of nave and chancel supported on a 2-centred chamfered arch with brick above. Buttressed chancel of 3 bays with angle buttresses to the eastern corners. To the south 3 3-light restored windows with cusped reticulated tracery that to the centre bay with higher sill to accommodate priest’s door; sill band with figures to centre bay; doorway with 2 continuous hollow chamfers with a roll between; hood mould with figures stops. 6 light C19 Decorated east window. South porch possibly moved after demolition of aisles incorporates Medieval archway, restored, with shafts with polygonal abaci and a continuous outer order. Blocked lights in east and north walls. C19 nave doorway. Interior. Tall tower arch with pair shafts with polygonal bases and abaci, with a continuous roll moulding between the shafts and an outer continuous roll moulding. Tower buttresses visible inside. C14 nave arcades of 4 bays still in place; octagonal piers, bases and abaci; 2 hollow chamfered orders to arch; hood moulds with figure stops. C19 roof. Polygonal shafts and abaci to chancel arch. Rere-arches of chancel windows have thin shafts with foliated capitals; hood moulds with figure stops. The east rere-arch is restored with foliated stops. l½ ogee arches of piscina and sedilia, cut by window. Sill band with figures over priest’s door. Rere-arch has 5 orders of roll and fillet moulding with deeply cut hollows, hood with figure stops. North door C19. C14 glass in small south windows. Good C19 roof with arched wind-braces and crown posts on C19 foliated corbels. Remains off rood stair. Medieval screen- with restored upper parts. Reset marble monument in north nave wall to Jane Barton d.1726 and William Barton d.1740 with Corinthian pilasters, an arched head with cherubs; foliated apron with cherub’s head. Painted arms of George III. Restored octagonal font with quatrefoils to bowl.

Southrepps Hall

Southrepps Hall 2024 (Dowland)

Grade two* first listed in 1952

The citation reads:

Early C18. Brick and flint; smut pantile roof. Rectangular in plan, originally with rear stair bay under catslide roof, now a continuous extension with further C19 and C20 additions to rear and single storey C20 extension to side. Facade of 7 bays, 2 storeys and attic. Rusticated quoins. Centre 3 bays project slightly. Central double-leaved doors each of 3 raised panels; surround with rusticated pilasters, keystone and moulded pediment all of painted brick. Sash windows with glazing bars under flat rubbed brick arches. Central window to first floor has rusticated surround; the two flanking windows have a moulded arch. All first-floor windows have a flat wooden hood on brackets. Moulded brick modillions to eaves cornice. 3 attic sashes with moulded timber pediments. Parapet gables. 2 gable end stacks. Lefthand gable has 2 C20 semi-circular headed openings to the ground floor; 2 original oval openings to first floor with central oval glazing bars and 4 radial bars. Rusticated quoins. Returns of front and rear cornices continue into moulded brick platband. Small attic light. Right hand gable wall rendered below platband; flint above. Interior. Entrance hall with stone flagging. Stone fireplace with shouldered architrave and pulvinated frieze; plasterwork panel to overmantle. Door surrounds with shouldered architraves; doors of 6 raised and fielded panels with a beaded muntin. Ceiling cornice with egg-and-dart moulding. Rear stair hall now with passage running axially from it. Open-well stair; open string with decorative tread ends. Pine balusters, alternating fluted and plain columns, a pair per tread. Ramped and wreathed pine handrail. Egg-and-dart cornice to stair well with modillions supporting coved ceiling with decorative plaster panels. Archways from upper hall with panelled pine reveals and elliptical heads.

Beechlands Farmhouse

Beechlands Farmhouse 2007 (Needham)

Grade two* first listed 1952

The citation reads:

Dated in black headers 1744 on right hand gable. Brick. Pantile roof. Rectangular in plan with contemporary continuous outshut and further range to rear. Facade of 5 bays, 2 storeys and attic. Rusticated quoins. Sash windows with thick glazing bars; flat gauged brick arch, moulded brick hood and keystone to ground floor windows. Central doorcase with brick pilasters, flat brick arch with keystone; painted dentilled pediment probably of brick. Door of 6 raised and fielded panels, beaded muntin. Rustication between door surround and first floor rusticated window. First floor sashes with keystones, that to the centre bay having a moulded flat arch. Brick dentil eaves cornice. Kneelered parapet gable with stone ball finials to kneelers. 3 dormer sashes with moulded timber pediments. Gable end stacks. Outshut to rear now with C19 casements cutting 2 larger part- blocked openings with elliptical heads and keystones. Interior. Open well staircase with alternate twisted and column painted balusters, a pair per tread; ramped handrail; open string with plain tread ends. 6 panel doors.

Beechlands Farm Barn

Grade two first listed 1988

The citation reads:

C18. Flint with brick dressings; asbestos roof. Rectangular in plan with C19 outshuts of no special interest. Flint plinth with brick cap. Large central doorway to north face; 2 ventilation slits to either side. Parapet gables. Tumbling-in to gables. Interior. Roof of 5 bays with tie beams and collar beams. 2 rows of butt purlins. Ridge piece. Included for group value.

Ham House

Ham House 2025 (Dowland)

Grade two first listed 1952

The citation reads:

House, previously a public house. Early C19. Brick and flint, part rendered. Pyramidal hipped smut pantile roof. Painted brick front of 3 bays, 2 storeys. Central door with reeded pilasters and fascia. 6 panel door; over- light with single vertical glazing bar. Sash windows with glazing bars under rendered flat arches with keystones. Pediment over central bay with lunette having radiating glazing bars. Central stack. Left hand gable wall of galleted flint; 4 blind openings with rendered reveals.

Barn at Church Farm

Grade two first listed 1976

The citation reads:

Probably C17 remodelled in C19 and with a C19 roof. Flint with brick dressings; pantile roof. Large door in northern end of west face; ventilation slits; parapet gable. 2 doors in north gable wall with slit over. Doorway with segmental arch head to south gable wall; large opening in gable. Large C20 brick buttresses to centre of east wall. Remainder of wall partly obscured by vegetation but large doorway to northern end and slit lights visible. Interior C19 kingpost roof. Included for group value.

Church Farm House

Grade two first listed 1976

The citation reads:

C19 with earlier core. Brick, flint and stone. Glazed black pantile roof. Two parallel rectangular ranges in plan. Facade of 3 bays, 2 storeys of flint fragments in mortar. Central doorcase with consoles supporting plain frieze. Plank door with muntins rising to 2-centred arches; tripartite overlight with horizontal glazing bars. 3-light C20 casements in C19 form with rendered reveals and hood moulds. Stone quoins and stone bracket to left hand gable return. Some C17 brick to right hand gable return. Gable end stacks with paired octagonal shafts.

Church Farm Cottage

The citation reads:

C17 remodelled in C19. Flint with brick dressings. Pantile roof. Rectangular in plan. Facade of 2 bays, 2 storeys with C20 brick porch between C20 casements. 2 C20 casements to first floor in part-blocked earlier openings. Brick eaves dentils. Right hand gable end stack. C20 single storey extension to right. Left hand gable wall rebuilt after collapse c1980. Rear wall has 2 blocked C17 openings with hood moulds and one C17 opening now with C20 casement. Included for group value.

Vernon Arms

Vernon Arms 2025(Dowland)

Grade two first listed 1952

The citation reads:

C19 with earlier core. Flint with brick dressings. Hipped pantile roof. Rectangular in plan with C19 single storey extension to right hand side and C20 extension to rear. Facade of 3 bays, 2 storeys. Flint plinth with brick cap. Central doorway with brick reveals. To left one 3-light C20 casement under segmental arch; to right one probably C18 leaded 2-light casement. Blocked openings to either side of door. To upper floor a central cross-casement, flanked by 3-light casements, all with some leading. Brick and flint buttress to left hand end of front wall. Gault brick stack to right hand gable wall.

The Grange

The Grange 2025 (Dowland)

Grade two first listed 1975

The citation reads:

C18 (date of 1749 on sundial set in front wall). Flint and brick. Pantiled roof. Rectangular in plan with outshut to rear, enlarged C20 and with a second gable. Facade of 4 bays, 2 storeys, of flint. Door to second bay, the doorcase having fluted pilasters and fluted fascia. Double-leaved doors of 3 panels each; overlight with vertical g1azing bars. Masonry panel over with coat of arms and Tudor roses. Sashes with glazing bars; brick reveals. Blocked doorway between third and fourth bays. Upper floor openings have wooden lintels. Kneelered parapet gables with stone ball finials to the kneelers. 2 gable end stacks, that to right renewed; off-centre axial stack.

Southrepps Lodge Farmhouse

Date unknown (Needham)

Grade two first listed 1988

House. Dated 1862 C.F. on porch, with late C16/early C17 wing to rear. Galleted flint with brick dressings; hipped slate roof and pantile roof. T-shaped in plan. C19 symmetrical facade of 3 bays, 2 storeys and attic. Casements under flat arches, each light having 2-centred arch glazing bars and leading. Central gabled porch with 2-centred archway; single-light casements to side walls; plank and muntin house door with overlight. 2-light casements to first and attic storeys. Bays flanking the porch have
a 3-light casement to the ground floor; 2-light casement to first floor;oversailing eaves. Hipped roof with 2-light attic casements in the gables having decorative barge-boards with drop finials. 2 stacks to rear wall. Earlier wing at right angles to the rear of 5 bays, 2 storeys with C19 casements and 1 sash with glazing bars; massive central stack with bases for 4 clustered shafts; gable end stack.

War memorial

War memorial St Jamess’ Church 2025(Dowland)

Grade two listed first listed 2018

The citation reads:

Southrepps War Memorial is located in the churchyard of St James Church, Clipped Hedge Lane, Southrepps, Norfolk. It is prominently situated in the south of the churchyard, near to its edge and facing the road. It comprises a Latin cross on a tapering shaft, two-tiered plinth and two-stepped base. The cross has a pyramidal cap. The front of the cross and shaft bears a Sword of Sacrifice carved in relief. The top tier of the plinth has a slightly sloping cap and chamfered corners. The bottom tier is deeper and has a moulded rim, and chamfered corners where flint is inserted in vertical strips. The stepped base has flint inserted in horizontal strips.

The inscription is carved in relief and reads: TO THE GLORY OF GOD AND TO KEEP/ IN MEMORY THE MEN OF SOUTHREPPS/ WHO FELL IN THE GREAT WAR/ THEIR NAME LIVETH FOR EVERMORE/ 1914 – 1918/ (NAMES)/ 1939 – 1945/ (NAMES).

Stump Cross

Stump Cross 2025 (Dowland)

Grade two first listed 1988

The citation reads:

Remains of cross and base. Medieval. Stone. Base found by road-workers in 1932. Chamfered shaft cl.5m high with remains of tenon on top was retrieved from Trunch rectory garden and set on top.

Wall two metres south of Church farm cottage

Grade two first listed 1976

The citation reads:

Wall. Probably C18. Flint with brick cap and some stone quoins. L-shaped in plan. Runs along roadside south of Church Farm Cottage for approximately 35 metres then continues at right angles for approximately 15 metres. Included for group value.

Lower Street

Manor Farm

Manor Farm farmhouse 2025 (Dowland)

Grade two first listed 1952

The citation reads:

C18. Brick and flint; pantile roof. Rectangular in plan. 5 bays, 2 storeys. C20 casements; C20 porch between second and third bays. End bay projects slightly. House completely covered in vegetation but said to have flat pointed arches to former ground floor window openings. Parapet gables. 2 gable end stacks. Left hand gable wall of brick, the gable being flint.

The vegetation has since been removed.

The citation reads:

Dated 1823 on west wall datestone. Flint with brick dressings. Hipped thatch roof. 2 large openings to north face with ventilation slits between. Large C20 building attached to south face. Included for group value.

Antingham and Southrepps School

The citation reads:

School. Dated 1826 (not original). Flint, gault brick with gault brick dressings. Slate roof to front, composite in imitation of slate to rear. L-shaped plan. Regular buttressed single storey facade of 9 bays. Central bay has projecting porch with crow-stepped gable and finials, lower central extension to this in brick with 2-centred blank arch bearing dates of 1826 and 1976; castellated parapet and finials; niches to each side. Axial stack to porch. 8 square-headed 8-light tall windows, the top 2 panels having 2-centred arch glazing bars; square hood mould. Large wooden eaves brackets; corner finials. Central spirelet for bell. Gable ends have 2 lancet windows each with Y-tracery glazing bars with brick dressings under hood moulds; brick roundel above with stone tracery; corner finials. Another similar range of 5 bays to rear possibly of later date but same decorative details.
