William Allen
William Allen retired to Lower Street in 1933 where his daughter lived. Read about his part in the incredible rescue of the SS Fernebo in January 1917 for which he was awarded a gallantry medal.

We have been comparing the 1841 census the earliest available and the 1921 census to see the changes in the village. Despite having more houses our village population is smaller than it was in 1841.
