Edna Punchard

Autobiographical

Edna was born Edna Knights in 1923 she lived all her life in Southrepps first at Garden Farm then at The Nest Warren Road where she lived with her husband Edward. She died in 2013.

My Grandfather, John Knights, lived at Garden House, Lower Southrepps until he retired in the early 1900. He then moved into Hope Cottage (now Bankside) where he lived until his death at the age of 91 or 92 in the early 30s. My father Fred Knights moved moved into Garden House and lived there all his life. He farmed some of the land and grew market garden produce and had fruit (raspberries and gooseberries) and apple and pear trees.

He had a greengrocery round, going into Cromer and surrounding areas, and supplied some hotels using a horse and cart until he had a Trojan van.

He fattened pigs and killed one a week in the months with an R in them, which he sold in the shop(He was a butcher in the First War).

My Uncle Tom Knights used to kill the pigs, he also used help with the garden produce. Tom used to kill and prepare pigs for people who fatted pigs for their own use. He would go off on his bike taking the tressil tied on it in all weathers. They were a tough breed.
