Today is tomorrow's history

Neighbourhood Hub and Food bank

September 2026

This group was started about three years ago by two ladies who saw a need. It was agreed that the church could be used as a distribution centre and social chat room, once a month. This takes place on the first Wednesday morning of the month between 10am and 12pm.

It was started by the two ladies using their own funds. It continues to be funded by donations and three yearly raffles. These are supported by a small group of volunteers and friends.

The shopping is bought once a month for the ladies; neither of whom are young, and then transported to the church to be stored. Boxes of foodstuff have been left in the porch for anyone to collect. this has worked well until a cowardly person thought it was clever and funny to leave a bag containing dog poo amongst the food. This then had to be destroyed and cleaned by the volunteers, who were left saddened and somewhat disillusioned.

However they have decided to carry on.

It would seem that although the need is there many people are unable to make that move for help.

Privacy is assured. No one need to feel embarrassed, ashamed or have any feelings of guilt. Even if people cannot face coming to the Hub, please tell us, you can still be helped.

The Hub is open to all, those that come just for the company or a social get-together help financially by buying drinks and cakes.

Gifts of food and money would be most acceptable to relieve the burden on the very small group of volunteers. Donations can be left at Beck House Lower Street, Lower Street.

Please DO NOT feel afraid to ask.
